Course Information

The course begins by teaching about fossil fuels and their contribution to global warming. It then discusses the greenhouse effect, followed by climate action by governments and the road to net zero. From there, the course delves into theory about the 5 low carbon technologies and introduces practical learning tasks on Quantum Green Skills Facilities with the aim of bridging the gap between theory and practical learning.

Course Materials

You will receive theory PowerPoints for all modules (6 modules for the 36 GLH version and 7 modules for the 150 GLH version), Tutor notes, Student Activity Booklet, and Tutor Practical Manual.

Course Structure

Quantum’s course is split between theory and practical learning topics. The order of the modules are as follows:

  3. Net Zero & Climate Action
  4. Domestic Energy Saving Technologies: Air Source Heat Pump
  5. Domestic Energy Saving Technologies: Solar Thermal
  6. Domestic Energy Saving Technologies: Electrical Eco-system
  7. Design Module (only applicable to the 150 GLH version)

    • The course is designed to complement an MES program or NVQ covering the
      following areas including but not limited to Plumbing, Electrical, Heat and
      Ventilation, Gas, Renewable or Air Conditioning.
  • We have 2 versions available: 36 Guided Learning Hours (GLH) and 150 GLH, to enable flexibility to current curriculum programs as an additionality or embedded within curriculum, e.g. Maths and English or ESOL
  • New Low Carbon Heating Technician Apprenticeship (course builds the foundation at Level 2 to enable successful progression into Level 3)

    and does not have any formal/summative assessments and so it does not require an
    awarding body
  • Quantum will liaise with all delivery partners in an IV/standardisation capacity to
    monitor and support the delivery of the course
